by Nick Shimmin, WB Public Library · Op-Ed · June 02, 2016

Believe it or not, summer’s almost here and with that comes the Summer Library Program at the West Branch Public Library.

This year’s theme is all about games, sports, activity, and health and is called On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!

The kickoff this year will be June 3rd at 7 p.m. at the library with a set of special activities we’re calling Let the Games Begin! (Be sure to stay for the Main Street West Branch Simply Summer Movie at the football field immediately following!)

We’ll have our own Olympic-themed games including our own torch lighting, and, of course, popcorn and snow cones!

Through the summer we’ll have special events including Magic Class with Rick Brammer, The Hanson Family Jugglers, and the ISU Insect Zoo Bug Olympics, as well as summer regulars Snack & Stories, Thursday, and Preschool Storytime!

There are reading and learning prizes for people of all ages with sign-up available now!

Children’s prizes focus on reading for minutes, saving up stickers and coins for buying toys, candy, and more!

Teens enter a drawing for every book completed with their prizes including free passes, gift cards, and more!

And adults can have their own fun with smaller prizes for turning in books completed as well as a grand prize drawing for a Fitbit Charge HR!

Full schedules and information can be found online at wbpl.org/srp!

Now, a few recent additions to our collection: (KEY: (B) = regular print book, (E) = ebook, (L) = large print, (A) = audio book)
