Donald W. Lumpa, 86, of West Branch, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch.

His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with a time of visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing during a luncheon following the services at the funeral home. Burial took place at the West Branch Cemetery, where Military Honors were bestowed. Donations can be made in Don’s memory to the West Branch American Legion. Donald William Lumpa was born March 30, 1930, in rural Johnson County, the son of John H. and Hilda (Niemeyer) Lumpa. He attended rural Johnson County schools. Following high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Don was united in marriage to Anita M. Barrett on Oct. 17, 1957, in Mount Vernon. For a number of years, Don was employed at Farm Service in Tipton, and for nearly 25 years worked for the University of Iowa Department of Athletics, at the Finkbine Golf Course.

His family includes his two brothers, Raymond Lumpa and John Lumpa, both of Iowa City; one sister, Irene Steinbrech (Bob) of Solon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita, on June 11, 2004; a brother, William; and a sister, LaVerna Stutzman.
