West Branch Police Department reported that two families nearby each other reported thefts of heavy yard ornaments over the weekend.

A decorative rock, large enough to include an engraving of the University of Hawkeyes and the family name, was taken from Thomas Drive and reported about 7 p.m. April 21, WBPD Ofc. Catherine Steen said Monday. The theft also included a light hook and solar lights shaped like a lighthouse.

According to a post on Facebook, the rock was found at a home on Pedersen Street.

Then a red ceramic bird bath was reported stolen about 4 p.m. Friday on Sagert Drive.

Steen said those were the only two similar incidents reported recently. However, two other families reported on Facebook that they also had solar lights taken from their yards.

One of those families reported their solar lights were stolen from their yard on Pedersen Street on April 21; two of the lights were broken and found on a neighbor’s property, where other vandalism was found.

A second family reported that they had solar lights, shaped like owls, taken April 22 from their lawn on Scott Drive.
