Letter: Syria: Recall help given by French, Polish
Op-Ed · November 25, 2015

Like it or not, we are at war and together it is time for us all to stand together joined with Syrians in the manner of the Free French and Free Poles of World War II.

And together, let it be known to terrorist enemies that here come the Free Syrians and we are totally behind their cause for freedom within their own land.

The Syrian refuges constitute a welcome force in the civilized world’s defeat of nihilistic terrorism. Consistent with the compassion essential for liberty worth living, our land and those of allied nations need jointly provide a safe haven for mothers with children while the other Syrian refugees fight in winning a good homeland for their people. While Syrian refugee mothers with children are secure, military training facilities need be set up for all other Syrians refugees.

Such facilities, established secure from sabotage that can come from without or likewise from within, can train and arm Syrians to go back into their own country and win a better land for them all by serving as combatants, contentious objectors serving as medics and nurses, and resistant fighters as a disruptive 5th column within Syria. In place of other nation’s people, Free Syrians can heroically serve as boots on the ground for if they are not willing to do this they earn the hell that need find no room in our land of the free and the home of the brave.

Such patriotic service was exhibited in World War II by the Free French under De Gaul in England from were French trained resistance fighters dropped behind German lines to raise havoc with enemy troop movement, communications and logistic support. The Free Polish of the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade dropped into fighting to join trap British troops and had one of their Polish units cut down to but 200 troops while what was left of the rest of them shielded the withdraw of what was left of our casualty frayed American 1st Airborne fighting their way out of British Field Marshall Montgomery’s disastrous bridge-too-far into the Netherlands.

The fight of these times is against nihilistic terrorists who have demonstrated they will die and never surrender and it can only be fought in Syria by Syrians who with their refugee feet have demonstrated they at the moment have had the most to lose. They will need to step up and win a place for themselves in their own homeland as allied forces provide air and logistic support.

And Mr. President Obama, please no more wonking over how well administrative plans have been working, and there is no need for more talk of arranging the deck chairs on the Ship of State for a comfortable cruise for Syrian refugees. Now is the time to damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead with our Commander in Chief at the helm.

Sam Osborne,
