FFA travels to Kentucky to ‘amplify’ leadership

Eight members of the West Branch FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., from Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Friday, Oct. 30.


Emma Wright, Delaney Rife, Emma Fryauf, Katie Edge, Tyler Shipley, Eric Heick, Ethan Fetzer, and Alex Miller attended general sessions and educational tours throughout the four days as they “Amplified” their leadership and interacted with FFA members from across the country.

These members toured Churchill Downs and Tucker Tobacco Farm Wednesday morning where they learned the history of the horse racing industry, Churchill Downs, and the Kentucky derby as well as how to properly raise, grade, and prepare tobacco plants for sale.

On Wednesday night, the members attended the first general session, which included inspirational words of wisdom from speaker Rick Rigsby.

Dr. Rigsby spoke of many life lesson and keys to success will reminding FFA members that “It’s not too late to be great.”

Thursday was spent exploring the on site career fair, which had representatives from schools and agricultural companies from across the nation, and attending the second general session.

Finally, the members sat in on the fourth general session on Friday morning, which included the appearance of motivational speaker Amberley Snyder who taught the members to make the best out of every obstacle life throws your way.

The group then made their drive home to return Friday evening.
