Margaret F. Richey Thomason, 98, of West Liberty passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkeruneral home.com. A memorial fund has been established.

Margaret was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Cedar County the daughter of Clifford and Bessie (Smith) Schooley. She attended the Linn Grove Country School and West Liberty High School. She later graduated from Dellor School of Cosmetology in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1936. While in California, she did some extra work for Warner Bros. Studio and worked in the movie Son’s of Guns with Joe E. Brown. On March 23, 1937, she was united in marriage to Robert Richey in West Liberty; following his death, she later married Delbert Thomason, in 1994.

She had been employed throughout the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for several years and also at ACT in Iowa City.

She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, and was part of the Swinging Seniors singing group for several years. She spent many years as a caregiver for her mother as well as aunt and uncle Vetress and Harold Dexter.

Survivors include daughter-in-law Cheryl Richey of Washington, Iowa; stepson Robert and wife Thelma of Mesquite, Texas; sister-in-law Eloise Buchman of Sun City, Ariz.; nephews Steven (Kris) Schooley of Iowa City, Gary Schooley of Davenport, Dale (Aurora) Akins of Viola, Ill., Dwain (Margaret) Richey of Des Moines; niece Joan (Bob) Lightner; and niece-in-law Jo Richey; many great- and great-greatnieces and -nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Robert Richey and Delbert Thomason; son John Robert Richey; brothers Phineas Schooley and LeRoy “Bud” Schooley; sisters-in-law Grace Richey and Ruth (George) Gluth; brothers-in-law Herb (Florence) Richey and Howard (Bernice) Richey; and nephew Clint Richey.
