Memorial ride to honor Worrell

Friends and family of former Mayor Mark Worrell will honor the businessman and motorcycle enthusiast with a “Memorial Ride for Cubby!” starting 11 a.m. Saturday at Herb ‘N’ Lou’s Pizza, 105 North Downey.

The Aug. 29 ride is close to Worrell’s Aug. 31 birthday, which had been suggested by his wife, Kathy.

“What a perfect time to ride together in his memory,” she wrote on the Facebook page created to help organize the event.

So far, more than 50 have committed to attend.

Ride organizer Davie Meredith said “Kickstands up at noon!” to head to the second stop on the ride, Bubbas in Mechanicsville.

Each stop will last about 45 minutes. They next head to Stone City, then Thirsty on 30, then Sutliff.

The event had been scheduled for earlier this month, but some had conflicts.

“Mark deserves a large turnout,” she said.

Kathy Worrell said she realizes not everyone has a motorcycle, so cars and trucks are welcome to join them as well.

“Mark always loved a big party and would want everyone there,” she said.
