Lift helps visitors reach Springdale’s three levels
News · July 02, 2015

Springdale United Methodist Church recently installed a chair lift to help members and visitors navigate its three-level building.

Rhoda Barnhart, co-chair of SUMC’s Committee on Outreach, Mission and Evangelism, said the new chair lift was installed in early May.

“We want to get the word out, ‘We’re accessible!’” she said.

The chair lift is near a ground-floor door on the west side of the building and can go down to the basement or up to the sanctuary, Barnhart said. Church members helped raise money, remodel and reallocate space, and paint to make room for the chair.

The lift is used, but only slightly, and was professionally installed in part to meet insurance requirements, she said.

“This is quite an accomplishment,” Barnhart said. “We plugged away and got it done.”
