Wesley J. Butts, 70, died Monday, May 11, 2015 at his home in West Liberty.
Funeral services were Friday, May 15, 2015, at the West Liberty United Methodist Church with visitation prior to services. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Wes was born Oct. 22, 1944, in Harlan, Iowa, the son of John W. and Bernice Meyer Butts. He was a graduate of Harlan Community High School in the Class of 1963 and attended Clarinda Community College in Clarinda, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Marlene Stein on Sept. 5, 1964, in Harlan. He had been employed at Rohner Machine Works in West Liberty and later the pharmacy department at the University of Iowa, from where he retired.
He enjoyed many hobbies including motorcycling, snowmobiling, boating and fishing.
He is survived by wife Marlene of West Liberty; one daughter, Kim (Don) Greiner; grandchildren Katie, Sam and Emily Greiner; sister Carol (Ron) Kline; and two nephews, Derek and Garrett Kline. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Duke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a cousin, Donna Mullins.
