The White House Beat: How will you handle crowds here to see MOGH exhibit?
by Jerry Fleagle, Hoover Association · Op-Ed · April 16, 2015

I’ve spent the bulk of my career in the grocery industry, as a store manager here in West Branch, as an owner, and as an executive in the Iowa Grocery Industry Association. So I’m going to borrow a phrase from my friends at Hy-Vee: “Are you a helpful smile?”

We believe The Making of the Great Humanitarian exhibit could draw as many as 100,000 visitors to West Branch this summer, based on projections from current attendance trends and historical data. How we treat theses visitors at the attraction and in the community will play a large part in bringing them, and their disposable income, back to West Branch.

Its been said that happy visitors go home and tell their friends and come back. Unhappy visitors go home, tell their friends, and don’t come back. I’d like to encourage everyone to ‘be a helpful smile’ this summer and create an atmosphere so friendly and compelling that our Historic Downtown and Hoover Campus stays busy and prosperous for years to come!

If your business has the CSI: West Branch binder on hand, updates are ready to go at the Main Street office. Give them another look and share them with your team so you’ll be ready to help any visitor with their questions – we’re all tour guides!

The power of one

A single individual can have a huge impact on a visiting family just by pointing the way, suggesting a restaurant, or liking our Facebook pages and retweeting photos.

If you’d like to volunteer, we have a variety of ways to do so! Just call us at 643-5327, email Info@HooverPF.org, or drop by the Yellow House across from the Library-Museum, and let’s explore a volunteer position that’s of interest to you, and show the world that West Branch has the friendliest people, best shops, and of course, a fascinating hometown hero.

Watch for more updates on The Making of the Great Humanitarian: Herbert Hoover and World War One” in the West Branch Times and your favorite social media sources.

It all starts Friday, May 1, and we can’t wait for you to see it!
