Second parks vote in November?
News · February 26, 2015

West Branch's Parks & Recreation Commission last week decided to formally approach the City Council to ask for a second public vote on parks funding.

Director Melissa Russell said the Feb. 19 meeting did not discuss a dollar amount, but she will approach the council at its March 2 meeting with the recommendation that the city ask the public for another vote on parks funding in November.

Voters in November 2014 approved a Local Option Sales Tax worth $1.8 million, but did not have the necessary 60 percent supermajority to pass a $4 million referendum, both of which would have gone toward improving city parks.

The parks & recreation commission has been discussing asking residents to vote again on the referendum to see if it could make up the shortfall of votes.
