Mary Louise Williams, 95, of West Branch died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in West Branch. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial will be at the West Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. Online condolences may be made to the family at hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com.

Mary was born Nov. 24, 1919, the daughter of Joseph Fladge and Nellie Preston Clements. She graduated from Springdale High School in 1939 and went on to attend Tipton Junior College, where she earned a teaching degree. She was united in marriage to Harold W. Williams on June 19, 1943, in Olympia, Wash. She taught at schools in Clarence and Springdale and later was a substitute teacher at West Branch from 1960 until 1973. She also worked part time at ACT in Iowa City for 26 years.

Mary was a member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She belonged to various clubs including: bridge, sewing, 500 card club, Red Hats, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mary was a homemaker and mother for many years. She loved gardening, sewing, playing cards, and baking chocolate chip cookies and pies. Mary’s family was very important to her and she had a great love for them all.

She is survived by four daughters: Janet Hersbergen of Baton Rouge, La., Patricia Alt and her husband Edward, of Dubuque, Iowa, Beverly Williams and Rick Walters of Iowa City, Elaine Neel and her husband Arthur of Trivoli, Ill.; two sons: Larry Williams and wife Christine of Clovis, Calif., and Allen Williams and wife Elizabeth of Indianola, Iowa; one sister, Theresa Pelzer and husband Dick of Tipton; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Sondergard of West Branch; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, three brothers, and one grandson.
