Letter: Westboro protests like shouting ‘fire’ in theater
Op-Ed · December 11, 2014

Even though session has not yet started, something very alarming happened yesterday that I feel compelled to fight.
A judge ruled Iowa’s law that prohibits flag desecration as unconstitutional. The suit was filed by the ACLU and the Westboro Baptist church.

Their motivation is that they believe they should be able to trample and spit on our flag while shouting anti-gay slurs at the funerals of our fallen soldiers.

The magnitude of disgust and anger I feel about this cannot be put into words. I value our first amendment rights but just like you cannot shout “fire” in a crowded movie theatre, you should NEVER, EVER, be allowed to spit and stomp on our flag while protesting the funeral of someone who died fighting for our freedoms.

I do not know what I can do specifically at this point but count on me to fight with a fiery passion to defend the honor of our flag and our fallen soldiers.
