Kim was born a farm girl on November 30, 1969, and never strayed far from those roots. The first of four children of Larry Thomann and Patricia Flynn Thomann, Kim enjoyed nurturing animals, horseback riding, gardening, and helping on the family’s rural Riverside farm from an early age. Kim graduated from Highland Community Schools in 1987.

Kim married Larry TeBockhorst in 1989. From this union came two sons, Benjamin in 1991 and Alex in 1992.

Kim married David Friese on Aug. 13, 1999, and settled on their farm north of Washington. This loving marriage provided another son, Ryan, in 2001. She went on to divide her time as gardener, cook, hostess, successful massage therapist, and above everything, devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Kim’s commitment to her sons, and later her nieces and nephews, was boundless. She was active in youth organizations and never missed a game, county fair, or school function. These activities kept her spirit young as her sons grew over the years.

Those who were lucky to know Kim will remember her as a wonderful hostess, happiest when serving a home-cooked meal to loved ones crowded into her kitchen or throwing one of her famous porch parties. She could light up a room with her smile, laugh, and witty recount of a family memory. Kim was beautiful, warm, generous, tenacious, and caring.

Kim is survived by her loving husband, David, and her three children, Benjamin, Alex, and Ryan; her parents, Patricia Flynn Thomann of Iowa City and Larry and Christine Thomann of Riverside; three siblings, Mark Thomann, Kathryn (Randy) Sexton and children Bradyn, Connor and Kael, Matthew (Crystal) Thomann; father- and mother-in-law Bob and Winnie Friese of Washington; sisters-in-law Brenda (Terry) Roth and children Dustin (Ashley), Jordan and Tanner, Jane Friese and son Scott (Fairlight), Mary Lou (Gordon) Shelangoski and children Alyssa (Blaine), Kylie and Wyatt; and brother-in-law Dennis (Angie) Friese and children Tyler (Staci), Natalie (Justin) and Travis.

We will all miss the light of Kim’s smile, but our world is forever brighter having known it.
