Ethel M. Burnett, 93, died Tuesday Aug. 26, 2014, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Methodist Church, 113 E. 5th Street in West Liberty. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Mae was born Sept. 3, 1920, near West Liberty, the daughter of Earl and Della Kramer Smith. She was a graduate of Nichols High School in 1938. On Nov. 7, 1944, she was united in marriage to Marion Burnett in Kansas City, Kan. She and her husband farmed in the area for many years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and Sunday School teacher, Floriculture Society, American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 509, Farm Bureau Women, 4-H Leader, Get Together Club in Atalissa, served as a volunteer grandmother in the elementary school for 11 years and helped as a quilting volunteer at the Simpson Memorial Home for 15 years. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She is survived by two children: Steven (Edie) Burnett of Atalissa and Diane (John) Leicht of Dubuque, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Robert Smith of West Liberty and Kenneth Smith of West Liberty.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers: Frank, Wayne and Rodney; and a sister, Betty Weinard.
