Several West Branch weightlifters qualified for the USA Weightlifting Youth National Championships June 13-15 in Florida, with Thomas Gould taking first place in his weight class.

Devin Kindon, Jacob Schreiber, Luke Lenoch, Theo Shriver and Thomas Gould traveled as representatives of Got Strength Weightlifting Club, a sanctioned USA Weightlifting Club.

Devin Kindon competed in the 85 kg weight class, finishing in 10th place. Jacob Schreiber competed in 77 kg, taking 14th place. Luke Lenoch competed at 85 kg and finished 11th. Theo Shriver competed at 62 kg and placed 14th. Thomas Gould competed at 50 kg and took first place in that class.

Coach Phil Johnson said this competition was the largest weightlifting meet in USA Weightlifting history with 531 competitors.

“Our athletes did fantastic with four of five athletes hitting personal records,” he said. “In addition, they positively represented West Branch and the state of Iowa with their high level of sportsmanship and maturity over the three days of lifting.”
