Letter: UI punished for its diverse student body
Op-Ed · July 11, 2014

In regard to the University of Iowa being economically punished for having a diverse student body, Governor Terry Branstad says, “I don’t think we should subsidize out-of-state students.”

Thus contends a man who is all for spending Iowa tax money to try and get out-of-state and out-of-country corporation to come into Iowa and that includes some fertilizer from Egypt and that is a bunch of you-used-to-have-to-watch-where-you-step stuff out in the cow pasture.

Typical of many Iowa kids, this year some outstanding new graduates from Iowa City and other communities are going to attend some top universities out of state. And some outstanding ones from other states have been coming to the University of Iowa, up until now, being among other young people from other places does not seem to be distracting them.

One can now wonder how attractive our schools of higher education will be to students from near or afar when they get known to be places that are intentionally inbred?

Right-winger politicians just don’t like foreigners from anyplace like New York, California, any places in-between or out there even more extreme than they are.
