Audrey Claire (Peters) Shown, 99, formerly of West Liberty and Iowa City, died March 25, 2014, at her home in Cypress, Calif., following a brief illness. Her two daughters were by her side.

She was born June 28, 1914, in West Liberty, Iowa the daughter of Herman and Mabel Fern (Miller) Peters. She attended The University of Iowa and graduated with a B.A. in Business. She was a member of the Psi Beta Chapter of Chi Omega. Her career in accounting and keypunch took her to many cities. In California, she worked at Douglas Aircraft during World War II. She also worked at the University of Iowa and The Colorado State Capitol in Denver. She returned to California in 1964. Her favorite job was working at Knott’s Berry Farm until her granddaughter was born. She retired at 77 years old to be a full-time grandmother.

Audrey was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a smart businesswoman, strong, independent, very kind and “cute as a button.” She loved her trips to Laughlin and Palm Springs and believed that there should be dessert after every meal. But her family was her true love, especially her granddaughter, whom she loved with all of her heart. We miss her every day.

Audrey is survived by her two daughters: Bonnie Lu Shown of Cypress, Calif., and Karen Ann Wells (husband Dr. Jim Wells) of Long Beach, Calif.; granddaughter Sara Marie Wells of Broomfield, Colo.
