Daniel “Dan” Borash, 65, of Iowa City died in his home, Saturday, April 12, 2014, surrounded by his family and friends.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, followed by a Memorial Service at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services in Iowa City. Additional services and burial will take place on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Ft. Snelling, in St. Paul, Minn. Visitation will begin at 10 am at the Ft. Snelling Memorial Chapel, located near Highways 5 and 55, with services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Daniel James Borash was born Dec. 5, 1948, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of John V. and Florence E. Borash. Following graduation from high school, he served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Dan was hired by the St. Paul Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic/FEO, until his retirement in 2003.

Survivors include Daniel’s wife, Diana K. (Collins) Borash; their children, Tracy Schutte (Chad) of West Branch, Kelly Dowler (Dana) of Alliance, Neb., Stephanie Martin (Greg) of Nichols, Lindsay Nash (Bill) of North Liberty, and Jordan Pattee of St. Michel, MN; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Gohde of Boulder, Colo., and Marilyn Montreux of Shoreview, Minn.; his brother, Donald Borash, of St. Paul; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Borash, and several beloved aunts and uncles.
