Margery Marie Mayhew, 92, Springdale
Obituaries · April 17, 2014

“Celebrate Life” is what Margery Marie (Nash) Mayhew of Springdale would have people do regarding her passing away Friday, April 11, 2014, quietly in her home just as she prayed and wished.

Marge was born in Springdale on Oct. 13, 1921, to Mark and Ruth Nash and lived her entire life close to her birthplace. She married the love of her life, Roy Milton Mayhew, on July 31, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo., after many months corresponding through letters. Family was vitally important to her as she embraced every addition over the years.

Her children included: Rick (Theresa) Mayhew of Solon, Mike (Lynn) Mayhew of Tomah, Wis., and Ruth (Jim) Farmer of West Branch. She loved each of her grandchildren (and their families) as they grew and matured these past years, who included: Melissa (Jason) Grandt of Chicago, Ill., and their children: Maggie and Claire, Margi Bowers of Oelwein, Iowa, and her children: Xander, Dawn, Preston and Hunter, Luke (Michelle) Mayhew of Lisbon and their children: Matthew and Leila, Erika (Dustin) Walters of Eau Claire, Wis., and their children: Grace and Hannah, and Chauncy (Amanda) Farmer of West Branch, and their children: Shae, Eli and Evan.

Marge and Roy were married 56 years and had many wonderful memories of family travels, scouting events and farming adventures. Marge worked at the Tipton Schools from 1941 to 1947 as secretary to the superintendant, took many years off to raise her family then went back to work at the West Branch Schools from 1973 to 2000 as the high school secretary. She loved staying young by being around the active young people! She was very involved in the Springdale United Methodist Church and the UMW organization, Self Culture Club, 500 cards, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, AFS chapter, and supporter of many local organizations.

Marge loved learning and trying new things, was always up for an adventure and enjoyed laughing at everyday moments with which she was blessed. Her faith was a constant source of strength as she celebrated many milestones and endured hardships. Marge had many interests including spending time with family, she loved to travel, enjoyed God’s outdoor playground, loved her farm animals, and loved crafts, playing cards and reading. She loved history and delighted in hearing people’s stories and found humor to be a great medicine. She would want all to celebrate her life but we know she will be truly missed!

A celebration of life was held Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Springdale United Methodist Church. Visitation was Monday, April 14, 2014, at the church. Burial was at Pee Dee Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established. Online condolences may be made to the family at hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com.
